While the Boulder election results are still officially unofficial, they were solid enough for the city to swear in four new councilmembers, Junie Joseph, Adam Swetlik, Mark Wallach and Rachel Friend, and two returning incumbents, Bob Yates and Aaron Brockett.
At 10.36 percent of the total 168,930 votes, Bob received the most votes followed by Junie (10.25 percent), Rachel (10.20 percent), Aaron (9.34 percent), Adam (8.55 percent) and Mark (8.39 percent). Based on the amount of votes they received, Bob, Junie, Rachel and Aaron have four-year terms, and Adam and Mark have two-year terms.
On Tuesday, the nine-member council unanimously elected current council member Mark Weaver as mayor and Bob Yates as mayor pro tem.
In Boulder, mayors do not carry more voting power. He or she runs the city council meetings with the mayor pro tem filling in when the mayor’s absent. And both attend the council agenda committee meetings, where staff and councilmembers outline and discuss the upcoming council agendas.
