Last Friday, Rosetta Hall opened in downtown Boulder at 1109 Walnut Street just south of the Pearl Street Mall’s west end, site of a former college student club and bar that needed a full gut (it got one).
The space features two bars — one on the ground floor and one on the third-floor rooftop (with cabanas in the back) — eight food stalls with eight unique restaurateurs including former Denver food truck Ginger Pig.
Rosetta Hall’s rich blue and creme color scheme and its modern-luxury design — epitomized by the halo chandelier above the Boxcar coffee bar in the foyer — marks the latest public manifestation of Boulder’s new, sleek, Tesla, moneyed new heart. It’s a sister to Pearl West just across 11th Street to the west.
From the owners of Boulder’s iconic downtown theater, Boulder Theater, and downtown event space, Rembrandt Yard, the hall offers Boulder a much-needed chill, public space. The large interior features open seating.
Boxcar and one of the food stalls, Folsom, open at 8 a.m. each day, serving coffee and breakfast, respectively. The rest of the seven food proprietors open at 11am along with the bars. The bars close at 10 p.m. on weeknights and at midnight on Friday and Saturday night.
Speaking of the weekend, the space becomes a club on Friday and Sat. evening. The open seating is removed, a DJ begins spinning music from an elevated balcony in the back and people dance and drink under lights that change color with the beat.
The space features an unusual business model, a cross between the Rayback Collective and a mall food court. We will explore this in a later post.
